PERCEPT BUSINESS CONCLAVE 2012

The Percept Business Conclave showcased interesting Panel Discussions and Guest Speakers featuring luminaries and stalwarts from the entertainment, media, communications, intellectual properties and legal domains across India.

Renowned Guest Speaker Dr. Bhaskar Das, President & Principal Secretary to the MD, Bennet Coleman & Company Ltd. kick-started the Business Conclave as he shared his perspective and views on ‘Deconstructing the Kolaveri Phenomenon’.

This was followed by an address by Ameet Naik, Founding & Managing Partner, Naik Naik & Company, wherein he provided informative insight on the topic ‘Intellectual Properties & the Law’.

The Panel Discussion entitled ‘Building a Sports Property’ featured leading names like Ayaz Memon (Consulting Editor, NewsX and Sports Columnist – HT, TOI), Atul Wassan (India Former Cricketer, Commentator, Columnist and CEO), Dhanraj Pillay (National Hockey Player), Mohita Arora (Strategic Consultant, Ex Director – Pepsi & Godrej Sara Lee), Rajiv Raja (National Creative Director – DDB Mudra, Founder & Soundsmith – BrandMusiq).The session was
moderated by Sanjay Jha (Executive Director, Dale Carnegie Training India). This interesting 60 minute session tried to gauge if there was a science towards building a Sports Property or whether one has to be a talent like Sachin to become an iconic property? Could clever marketing and promotion create “attitude and personality” of sportsmen? Various examples such as brand Virat Kohli were discussed as the panel tried to determine his distinctiveness due to his performance or due to smart tactical promotions? The session also tried to assess if the popular game of cricket has paved way to rising stars in the tennis, badminton and boxing arena?

The next Speaker was the noted Satish Kishanchandani, Co-Founding Partner, DSK Legal, who spoke on the importance of ‘The Law and You’ and its relevance in every person’s life.

The second Panel discussion titled ‘Entertainment Next : The Writing on the Wall’ showcasedeminent names such as Akash Chawla (VP Marketing, Zee Network), Ananth Mahadevan (Media Personality in Films, TV, Theatre & Advertsing), Carlton D’Silva (ECD, Hungama Digital Media Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.), Rohit Dhawan (Bollywood Director). The discussion was moderated by Vikram Malhotra (CEO, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures). The discussion explored the fact that cinema is poised at a cross road and while some formulas are working other other tested genres are failing. The panel debated on whether the revival of certain popular genres are a case of old wine in a new bottle or the beginning of a new trend? Panelists provided their thoughts on the future of entertainment…the writing on the wall?

The finale of the Percept Business Conclave featured the illustrious Rajan Mittal, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Bharti Enterprises, who had flown down all the way from Delhi to address the conclave. He spoke from the heart at length on the subject ‘Relationships and Business’. The focus of his interesting session was on the importance and relevance that relationships have on every aspect of our life across personal and professional platforms, and how to nurture and treasure the same. A moving and relevant address indeed!
