Adlabs to demerge radio biz, exit film production
Adlabs Films Ltd, the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) promoted firm, is re-crafting its various business
    verticals. The Rs 800-crore company has decided to demerge its radio business under a new entity, Reliance Unicom (RUL), and freeze all film production activities.
 
     

 
 




Animation industry to create up to 3.5 lakh jobs
by 2011
The number of professionals to be employed in the Indian animation industry in FY09-10 is expected to increase at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20% from the existing 18%. Analysts at

 
 
two of the big four global consulting firms say that animation will create around 2.5-3.5 lakh job opportunities by 2011, especially for those in the age group of 25-32 years.
 
   

 
UTV New Media forays into audio cinema
Mobile users can now have a personal multiplex on their handsets — the catch is that it can only be heard. UTV New Media, the digital arm of UTV, has launched ‘audio cinema’ which will be a 60-90 minutes edited movie with a voice over that would narrate the story including famous dialogues in the

  actor’s voice. Under its banner UTV@play, the media house will release one movie
 
every Friday in four languages. The first release for Hindi language users will be ‘Fashion’ and ‘Sholay’.
     
Industry welcomes Indian Outdoor Survey, but waits to see if it becomes a currency
The out of home (OOH) industry, as estimated by PWC reports, is expected to become a Rs 2,000 crore industry in India by 2010. OOH at present is around 8% of the total advertising pie. It has been said on various occasions that a credible measurement system is required to further grow this medium. The Media Research Users’ Council (MRUC) and Hansa Research
 
 
launched the Indian Outdoor Survey (IOS) 2009 for Mumbai on June 15, 2009. At present, many see this as a step in the right direction for the industry. At the same time, experts caution that like any other measurement system, one has to wait and watch on how the IOS grows over a period of time, and is able to actually become a currency for the industry.
