WPP Chief says Advertising Industry needs to focus on new markets. Martin Sorrell, Chief Executive of the WPP advertising group, does not mince words. “The print media is revered more than any other media. It’s an extremely powerful medium and is regarded with deference and devotion. Few newspaper or periodical publishers, however, have mastered the connection with new media platforms,” says Sorrell.
Advising corporates to begin experimenting with new media or risk falling behind the curve, Sorrell emphasizes that, “In this country of 1.2 billion, digital is openly being embraced, with mobile too ratcheting up the numbers,” despite reports of low internet penetration that plague the country.

Wedding costs are likely to rise by 20-25 % due to availability of fewer auspicious marriage dates this season. As per the Hindu calendar (Vikram Samvant), the November’09-February’10 marriage season has only 24 auspicious days, down from last year’s 50. The available days, shrunk by 50%, is expected to put pressure on venues, marriage materials, caterers, decorators-florists, trousseau, jewellery and logistics, leading to a rise in the input costs for the great Indian wedding. Last year, the slump in the economy saw the business drop by 25%.
