Percept Picture Company (PPC), India's leading fully integrated Content Creation, Aggregation and Distribution Company, has announced its plans to invest US $ 10 million this year for its foray into Hollywood and Bollywood film distribution, infrastructure and acquisition of content.
Said Mr Shailendra Singh, Jt MD, Percept Holdings, "Our Film Distribution Division will be a completely separate entity from the Production unit of PPC. The investments will ensure that we source out the right content for the masses and provide the Indian audiences with quality cinema from Hollywood and Bollywood. PPC-Distribution is fully geared up to set new standards in the Hollywood film distribution business with its first acquisition of Sony Pictures' 'Spiderman 3'."
PPC's Distribution division has had a successful track record in the past with hits like Page 3, Hanuman, Corporate, Malamaal Weekly and Traffic Signal amongst others.
"This exclusive setup of the Distribution Vertical under PPC will ensure a more focused and audited approach to the science of Distribution in India." continued Mr Singh.
"There's a huge market in India for Hollywood Films", says Mr Singh. In 2006 itself, approx 74 foreign films were released in India which raked in INR 2.5 Billion as box office collections, roughly 4% of the Total box office collections. Casino Royale was considered as the number 1 film for Hollywood in India, as it collected an estimated INR 410 million at the Box Office in 2006.* The gross box office collections of foreign films in India has risen from INR 1800 million in 2005 to INR 2500 Million in 2006.
Percept Picture Company had recently announced the acquisition of the theatrical distribution rights for Spiderman-3 in English and Hindi for all territories in India, excluding the four southern states. Apart from English and Hindi, the film will also be released in Tamil, Telegu and Bhojpuri. This is the first time ever that a Hollywood film will also be dubbed and released in the Bhojpuri language on the same day as the worldwide release.
